Rodney our Bowling champion
Rodney grew up in Bulahdelah just like any other boy being educated at the Central School in town and involved in any sport that happened to be in play. he was always a natural sport from the start, being a junior instructor for Karate as a teenager, he also tried out for NRL Under 16's State side, he plated tennis, cricket and all the sports young country boys play.
After leaving school he became apprenticed to a local fabricating outfit making combustion stoves. His ambition was to be a boiler maker and he attended Tech at Raymond Terrace two nights a week to achieve that end.
Rodney's life changed dramatically in 1985 due to an industrial accident in a local steel fabricating shop. Rodney's leg was crushed when a large piece of fabricated metal bounced off the floor severely injuring him. Rodney was devastated, his future as a person had been dashed in a moment of time. He was single at the time living with his mum and dad. The affect of the accident caused him to be extremely depressed. Of that period in his life, he said he became a hermit keeping out of sight and feeling sorry for himself.
However, a major change occurred when Rodney was introduced to the NSW Amputee Sporting Association, the encouragement they offered was enormously helpful to Rodney and set him on a positive path to recovery.
We would all want to congratulate Rodney on his achievements
to date. Not only has he overcome a major setback in his life due to the loss of a limb,
but he has become an international sports celebrity, even better still, he also is
the
loving husband of Kim and their two charming little daughters. Kyra-lea and
Kaitlyn.
