Mellita, Allan and Kathryn
with Jennifer
Jennifer
Mellita Bate was born at 0632 Friday June
17 2005 in Maitland hospital. Both Mum and daughter are well. Though there
were a few dramas. Like when Mellita was rushed, 3 weeks prior to the due
date, from Camp Elim, where she was at a CWCI conference, to Taree by
ambulance. The nurse, come midwife, on the camp said "This baby's coming",
and a parishioner said "let's go down to the lake and have it there, it will
be beautiful". Mid winter with 100 onlookers. Yeah right! Allan dropped off
Kathryn and drove the 120k's to Taree, and Mellita was discharged shortly
after. We got home at 1.30am and Allan spoke at a Men's Breakfast in
Bulahdelah the next morning 35k's away.
Mellita's due date came and went and everyone asked the same questions and made the same comments. On the Thursday night, Allan went to Parish Council at Bulahdelah, came home and played some playstation to wind down then hopped into bed at 1230am. At 1am, a quick trip to Maitland, where on the way Mellita tossed up between getting an ambulance at Raymond Terrace with the contractions 3 and a half minutes apart. We got to Maitland hospital ok. When we rang from Tea Gardens they had one customer. Now all 5 birthing rooms were full, no room in the inn, and we were left in a waiting room. Finally they moved us into a birthing room and Jennifer was born after only a 5 and a half hour labour.
Now for all those important irrelevant stats. Weight 3.32kg, , 7lb2oz, Length 46cm, 18 in.
