Jen's improved property
You
might remember, Jen bought Lawton's house back in about January of 2003, since
that time she has spent many hours planning, planting, pruning, manicuring and
decorating her garden with all manner of objets de'art, ducks and chooks.
The house was once upon a time the Bulahdelah Branch of ES&A Bank and the house was the managers residence. The small bank building would have been on the corner of Meade and Stroud Streets. The foundations for the bank vault are still evident today albeit, among plants in the garden.
Jen had a false start when she first bought the house, she planned and for a while commenced business as an arts and crafts type shop, but was forced to change her plans because the Great Lakes Council found she had breached their laws. This didn't stop Jen's enthusiasm for improving the property in so many ways into a small corner of paradise as far as she is concerned.
The
rear of the house overlooks the early morning shadow of the Alum Mountain. Jen
plans to retain the original character of the house except that she does plan to
renew the rusted corrugated iron roof in the near future.
We would wish Jen well with her plans and trust that her efforts have enhanced the chances of Bulahdelah being a desirable stop-over or even a destination for tourists.
